Group works on
  • Molecular characterization of viruses (emphasis on Potyviruses, Geminiviruses) and phytoplasmas.
  • Genetic transformation of plants with viral genes.
  • Production of virus/phytoplasma-free plants.
 
Objectives
  • To characterize potyviruses, geminiviruses infecting ornamental, horticulture and grain legume crops.
  • To develop diagnostic kits against potyviruses infecting ornamental crops.
  • To develop virus resistant transgenic plants.
 
Achievements
 
National
  • Molecular characterization of Cotton leaf curl virus (CLCuV), Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), Tomato leaf curl virus (TLCV) and Papaya leaf curl virus (PLCV).
  • Development of detection system for geminiviruses, potyviruses, cucumber mosaic virus and phytoplasmas.
International
  • Molecular characterization of CLCuV, BYMV and phytoplasma.
  • Development of detection system for geminiviruses and potyviruses.
