Training capabilities of Ecotoxicology & Bioremediation Group (for ISTAD website)

Objectives

  1. Biology of greenhouse gas emission from agricultural fields and wetlands.
  2. Development of abatement strategies to contain urban and industrial pollution.
  3. Bioremediation of contaminated sites and industrial wastes involving microbes and higher plants.
  4. Study of metal detoxification mechanisms in hyperaccumulator plants.
  5. Removal of organic pollutants through Sorption.

Training methodology

This includes lectures and practical demonstration of various instruments used for the analysis of water, plant and soil samples. Besides, the trainees are educated about the operation and maintenance of the equipments apart from up keeping of the laboratory.

Coverage of theoretical and practical aspects

The training is imparted to various levels of participants including teachers, junior scientists and research fellows. Lectures cover the background and updated information on various environmental issues pertaining to air, water and soil pollution. With the help of instruments, analysis of various parameters related to monitoring and abatement of pollution is demonstrated to the trainees. They are also given live demonstration on various aspects of bioremediation trials at degraded or contaminated sites.
